This large right bone has 10 cm of adjacent squamous bone with a well pneumatised mastoid and is ideal for all operations on the external auditory canal, tympanic membrane, middle ear, ossicles and mastoid. It is also suitable for practising the insertion of implants that need fixation to the skull. This bone can be operated on using normal otological instruments such as operating microscope, drill, irrigation, suction, and fine microsurgical instruments including microforceps, microscissors needles and hooks.
The bones are orientated in the operating position, placed in a square box and held in position with polystyrene foam. This presentation is designed for use with a Pettigrew Temporal Bone Holder (see Accessories section) but the bone can be easily removed from the foam if this is required.
